Introduction to the theoretical knowledge and practical skills involved in the design and fabrication of works in wood. Emphasis on the history and tradition of fine woodworking, the design and execution thereof, and the role of the artisan in society. The fundamentals of functional design and the design process are presented along with basic woodworking skills involving proper, safe usage of both hand and power equipment. Coursework includes exploration of various materials and assembly methods, culminating in the production of a three-dimensional project of the student's own design.
