Examination of the common repair and diagnostic procedures used to repair the systems of the automobile. The level of instruction will be consistent with the guidelines for Service Consultant Personnel who need to know repair and diagnostic procedures to effectively communicate with technicians and customers. Automotive Management & Customer Service

ABM310

Study of automotive management operational procedures for different types of service facilities. Emphasis on the tasks and duties of each member of the service team including the service consultant, technicians, and parts specialists. Topics include customer relations from the initial contact to the presentation of the invoice to the customer as well as the work environment, legal issues, warranties, campaigns and recalls as well as the job performance techniques for the service team. The course is aligned to the academic requirement for a writing enriched course. Course work includes writing the first stages of the senior project proposal. (Writing Enriched )

Automotive Management Strategic Planning & Personnel

Study of methods of quantitative analysis, strategic planning, and service personnel management required to manage an automotive business. Introduction to strategic planning relative to different types of facility ownership structures and development of formatted service systems. Quantitative methods to assist in management decision making. Course work includes completion of the senior project proposal as well as collection and preliminary analysis of initial senior project data.

Advanced Topics in Automotive Technology

Analysis of the technological trends in the automotive industry and how technology changes may affect the technician’s future job duties, manager’s decisions, and society as a whole. Examination of the science behind the operating principles that can change automotive technology as well as how business and society adapt to emerging technology. To promote understanding of the course content, course projects, study of engineering functions, and collection of technical data using special equipment may be integrated when appropriate. Automotive Managerial Analysis

Study of the systems required to manage and expand an automotive business. Discussion includes basic automotive industry business practices as well as accounting processes and financial statements specific to automotive service facilities. Financial management of profit centers focusing on service and parts departments is taught as well as evaluation and establishment of financial targets. Course work includes further senior project data analysis and formal writing of the research findings and preliminary conclusions.

Study of the methodology to present technical information to improve employee performance at a service facility. Examination of employee induction, development, and evaluation techniques used by management and training departments. Completion of a research project in an area of Automotive Technology designed to advance student knowledge and understanding within automotive management, technical training, or automotive technology.
