When you enroll in the full-time Practical Nursing program at the Wellsboro campus, you'll be on your way to a fulfilling career in just one year. With skilled faculty, hands-on state-of-the-art learning labs, 1,536 hours of instruction, and access to Penn College student services, you'll be confident and ready to take the practical nursing licensing exam (NCLEX-PN).  And, if you want to advance your career, we have pathways to get you there!  You'll be ready to work in hospitals, physician offices and clinics, nursing homes, home health care agencies, and assisted living facilities, to name a few. Practical Nursing Information

The Practical Nursing program has a total of 1,536 hours of instruction through a mixture of classroom, laboratory and simulation practice, and live clinical experiences. The full-time program takes place over a 4-day period. Some weekend time may be required in place of another clinical day . Clinical experiences occur at a variety of acute and long-term care facilities, as well as other specialty health offices throughout the Northern Tier.

TEAS Testing - Wellsboro Campus

We make it convenient for our students by offering the TEAS entrance exam in-person at our Wellsboro Campus.  For entry to the program either a TEAS exam or an SAT with a score of 930 or higher (less than a year old) are required. Search by state (PA) and ZIP (16901)

Enrollment

To be considered for enrollment in the program, you need:

  • A high school diploma or GED - Recommended high school subjects include three years of science and four years of English, social studies, and math (including algebra). Must be official, either in a sealed envelope or emailed directly from school to wlj2@pct.edu
  • A completed admission application
  • Satisfactory performance on the pre-entrance assessment exam (TEAS)
  • Two letters of character reference with the writer's name, address, and telephone number.
  • FBI, state police, and child abuse clearances, clear of prohibitive offenses (in compliance with clinical facilities) and current through the entire program
  • An interview with the program coordinator
  • Complete health screenings that are required by the program (placement in the program is conditional until health requirements are met)
  • Negative drug test

Cost: $19,700 (includes textbooks)

Housing is not available.

Other costs: Participants are responsible for uniforms, health exam and immunizations, liability insurance, supplies, travel expenses, background checks, and personal costs. All fees are subject to change. Contact Penn College at Wellsboro for more information.

Scholastic Requirements & Curriculum

Level I: 512 Hours

  • LPN 100- Medical Terminology Survey
  • LPN 115- Anatomy and Physiology I
  • LPN 201- Fundamentals of Practical Nursing

Level II: 512 Hours

  • LPN 125- Anatomy and Physiology II
    • incorporated with LPN 202
  • LPN 202- Nursing Care of the Adult and Child I

Level III: 512 Hours

  • LPN 203- Nursing Care of the Adult and Child II

Grades of 78% or better in all classes and satisfactory performance in the clinical/lab area are required to successfully complete program requirements. Attendance for 1,512 hours is mandatory to meet graduation requirements.
