The Energy Specialist program is a time-based 65-week registered apprenticeship designed to prepare apprentices to become skilled Energy Specialists. Upon completion, apprentices will possess the knowledge skills and abilities to play a vital role in ensuring existing homes are healthy, and safe for the occupants, and conduct field measurements to identify areas for energy efficient savings. They will also earn several nationally recognized credentials.

The Energy Specialist program is aligned with the NREL Energy Auditor Job Task Analysis and prepares workers for the BPI Home Energy Professional Energy Auditor certification exams.

Knowledge & Skills

Upon completion of the program, participants receive their journey worker papers from the US Department of Labor or the PA Department of Labor & Industry.

OSHA 10

The 10-hour OSHA course introduces employees to the basic practices of identifying, reducing, eliminating, and reporting hazards associated with their work.

EPA Lead

This initial 8-hour course trains employees how to work safely in housing with lead-based paint and comply with EPA's RRP rule and HUD's Lead Safe Housing rule.

BSP

The Building Science Principles (BSP) course demonstrates how various components of a home interact to affect the home’s overall performance.
