  • Interest in pursuing a career in building operations and maintenance; energy management; facilities management or related field

Course Fees: $995 person

Building Operator Certification Level I

This eight-week course teaches building operators to find practical, low-cost and no-cost efficiency solutions by working with existing systems. Students apply the material that they have learned to five hands-on projects within their commercial facilities. These projects require participants to demonstrate competence in locating building equipment, distribution pathways, and control points; calculating facility energy consumption; critiquing HVAC systems operations; and, sketching the facility’s electrical distribution system.

Course topics include:

  • Energy Efficient Operation of Building HVAC Systems
  • Measuring and Benchmarking Energy Performance
  • Efficient Lighting Fundamentals
  • HVAC Controls Fundamentals
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Common Opportunities for Low-Cost Operational Improvement

Eligibility for Training:

It is highly recommended that applicants for the training credential have a high school diploma or GED, and must have one of the following:

  • Two or more years of experience working in operations and maintenance of a commercial, industrial or institutional facility,
