Lost hikers? Emergency managers are all in
A call comes in from the Lycoming County Department of Public Safety’s 911 Center, indicating lost and injured hikers are in the woods on the property of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Schneebeli Earth Science Center. Fielding the dispatch are students enrolled in the college’s emergency management & homeland security major, who promptly set their training and skills into motion for a search and rescue full-scale exercise that also involves forest technology students.

Faculty present at world history conference in San Francisco
Two Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty presented at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the World History Association, held recently in San Francisco. Recognized as a major conference in the world history field, the event hosts scholars from across the globe. Craig A. Miller, professor of history/political science and department head of social sciences and humanities, and Jennifer R. Wahl, instructor of social sciences, led the workshop session: “The Politics of Teaching World History to Non-History Majors."

Penn College classes add global travel to students’ education
Supporting Pennsylvania College of Technology’s mission to equip future leaders with real-world experience, faculty members led students in exploring new parts of that world through six 2024 Global Experience classes. In Europe, students explored the origin and future of objects of their study, and in Latin America, they used their budding skills to serve others. Around 135 students participated in the classes.

Title III Strengthening Institutions Program Grant
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Pennsylvania College of Technology a Title III Strengthening Institutions Program Grant to implement a comprehensive redesign of its math curricula.
Titled “Improving Success and Retention for Underserved Students at Penn College,” this initiative aims to enhance educational outcomes for students, particularly those enrolled in developmental math courses. These courses are critical as they serve as gateways to most STEM majors, which are essential for equipping students with the skills needed for sustainable, high-demand careers. By strengthening the institution's capacity to support underserved students, the project seeks to boost retention and success rates, ultimately contributing to a more robust and capable American workforce and economy.
