A generous gift from Jersey Shore State Bank will once again benefit a program that enables high school students to take courses for college credit through Pennsylvania College of Technology. The bank provided a $5,000 gift through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program to Penn College Dual Enrollment, which allows academically qualified high school and career and technology center students to take Penn College courses tuition-free during their regular school day.
The Penn College Business Club – with support from the Event Management & Coordination class – hosted Coffee & Conversation, an event that joined students, primarily in business and hospitality majors, with 40 employers offering potential summer internships or long-term employment. In the seventh-semester class Building Molds & Dies, students swap three hours a week in their plastics labs for hands-on work in the Larry A. Ward Machining Technologies Center.

Local Girl Scout Troop 62019 demonstrated kindness recently by donating items to The Cupboard, Penn College’s food pantry supporting students experiencing food insecurity. With 2024 marking 40 years of the Girl Scouts’ “Daisy” level (grades K-1), the troop’s “Daisies” had the goal of collecting 40 items for The Cupboard. The girls and their families ending up gathering 70 items.
The 10th anniversary of the Wildcat Egg Hunt enjoyed an egg-static reception from about 200 eager egg hunters and their adoring fans. The Student Veteran Organization dotted Penn College lawns with nearly 3,800 eggs, and the youngsters came a-runnin’!
Sixty-six nursing and dental hygiene students took part in a “poverty simulation,” designed to put them in the shoes of families trying to meet obligations on a low income. “You never know what someone else is going through,” many students noted.
Hosting Penn State Harrisburg in its United East opener on Wednesday, Penn College Softball won the opener 5-4 in dramatic fashion and took the second 3-1. Hosting Cairn University in a twin bill on Tuesday, Penn College Baseball split, losing the first game 6-4 and winning the second 13-5.
