For the second time in four seasons, and first since 2021, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s softball team is in the United East Conference Championship series. An automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Regionals also is on the line.
A Pennsylvania College of Technology employee has a once-in-a-lifetime vacation planned for summer: umpiring at the Little League Baseball World Series. Zachary Gump, senior program manager of commercial buildings for the college’s Clean Energy Center, is one of 16 individuals from around the globe chosen to umpire for the first time at the 77th edition of the series, considered the world’s premier youth sporting event.

Ten Pennsylvania College of Technology employees have earned Blue Belts in Innovation Engineering, following completion of a 15-week Innovation Leadership Series. The Blue Belt certification is from the Innovation Engineering Institute and is recognized throughout industry. They are the third Penn College group to complete the training.
Seventeen students from six area school districts participated in the 2023-24 Penn College Youth Leadership Program, an initiative hosted annually by Pennsylvania College of Technology. As part of their engagement, the youth leaders experienced field trips to local community service agencies. At the recent Youth Leadership Graduation Dinner, each student was presented with a “certificate of graduation” for completing the program.
Seventeen teenagers from Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School in Coal Township spent a day exploring the world of polymer engineering and manufacturing, thanks in part to Pennsylvania College of Technology. The college provided funding support through a PAsmart grant it received last year for the students to visit Sekisui Kydex in Bloomsburg, a renowned thermoplastics manufacturing company.
First responders, detectives and pastry chefs were at work recently during “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” at Penn College. The Office of People & Culture invited employees to take part in the national celebration and organized hands-on engagement for children, 10 to 14 years old. A productive day at work was enjoyed by current and future Wildcats!
One down, one to go for the women’s softball team. Entering Friday’s United East Volt Division playoffs, Penn College coach Angela Stackhouse said, “It is anybody’s game.” And her Wildcats were more than happy to make it theirs alone with a three-game sweep to the divisional crown and a berth in this weekend’s UE Championship series at Elm Park.
Graphic design students and alumni from Pennsylvania College of Technology netted 20 awards in the 2023-24 American Advertising Awards Competition presented by the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Penn College designs captured seven gold awards, eight silvers and five honorable mentions.
Penn College’s Black Student Union hosted the college’s third Juneteenth celebration in late April. While the federal holiday – also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day – is observed on June 19, the April event allowed the college to celebrate while most students were still on campus.
