Students in Geoffrey M. Campbell's 300-level Passive Design studio class were asked to fashion a parade costume that would be representative of Penn College's building science and sustainable design major. They were given the assignment last Monday and the costumes were due Wednesday.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has been selected for inclusion in the 2011 list of "Military Friendly Schools" issued by G.I. Jobs. The designation is reserved for the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that do the most to "embrace America's veterans as students," according to the publication.

"Students Helping Students Succeed" is the slogan that has driven fundraising efforts by Pennsylvania College of Technology's Student Government Association for the past four years, and those efforts have paid off with a fully endowed scholarship fund for Penn College students. The Student Leader Legacy Scholarship Fund surpassed $25,000 at the end of the 2009-10 academic year.

Pennsylvania College of Technology officially opened its arms to first-year and transfer students during Welcome Weekend on Aug. 14-15. On Saturday, students moved into on- and off-campus housing and made final preparations for Monday's start of classes.

In training for the academic year ahead and in tribute to a late colleague, Penn College's full complement of Resident Assistants gathered in the Student and Administrative Services Center during Friday's start to Welcome Weekend.

The next medical (office) assistant class at Pennsylvania College of Technology's North Campus, three miles east of Wellsboro, is scheduled to begin in mid-September.

A group of electronics and computer engineering technology students in a 300-level Control Theory class taught by Scott D. Neuhard, assistant professor of electronics, presented class projects at Penn College's Spring Open House, showing off their skills and ingenuity for prospective students and their families.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented student achievement awards to its August 2010 graduates. A Summer Commencement ceremony was held Aug. 7 at the Community Arts Center, Williamsport. The award winners, their hometowns and academic majors are: President's Award, presented for leadership and service to the college: Larissa Dawn Kryder, Jersey Shore, physician assistant.

At Pennsylvania College of Technology, which will open a new residence hall this fall, students who commute to class still represent the largest percentage of enrollees. Helping those students get the most out of their college experience remains a top priority for the institution.
