Three commencement ceremonies will be offered May 13-14 at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport for nearly 950 students who have petitioned to graduate from Pennsylvania College of Technology following the Spring 2011 semester. At 3 p.m. on Friday, May 13, a ceremony will be offered for students from the schools of Construction and Design Technologies and Health Sciences.
A Pennsylvania College of Technology student was awarded The Pennsylvania State University's 2011 Achieving Women Award for her work at Penn State Schuylkill. Penny K. Shade, of Schuylkill Haven, works in Penn State Schuylkill's Hidden Stream and oversees the campus's catering service. She also is pursuing a bachelor's degree in culinary arts and systems from Penn College.
One alumnus drove more than 500 miles (round trip) to volunteer at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Spring Open House and two others ended the day by getting engaged in a campus parking lot. Alumnus Shawn Sidey, who graduated in 1996 with degrees in food and hospitality management and in culinary arts, returned to campus Monday to present to classes in the School of Hospitality. Sidey, roasting supervisor for the Starbucks plant in York, offered demonstrations and coffee tastings and talked with students about Starbucks, his work there and how his career has progressed.
