The Student Organization and Leadership Center was home to this month’s Service Saturday – “Cozy for a Cause.” Over a dozen Penn College students came together to create 12 “no-sew blankets” to donate to local nonprofits for the increasingly chilly autumn (and soon-to-be winter) season.
A no-sew blanket is made without a sewing machine or needle and thread. The most common type of no-sew blanket is a tie blanket, which is made by tying two layers of fleece together to create a fringed edge. No-sew blankets are a fun and simple service activity and a way students can contribute to the local community and make a tangible difference.
Organized by the Office of Student Engagement, Service Saturdays are hosted on the second Saturday of the month. In September, Penn College students cleaned up the Susquehanna River Walk. In October, they supported The Cupboard, the campus food pantry.
