The Residence Life Office has announced its September/October award-winners among Resident Assistants in Pennsylvania College of Technology's on-campus housing complexes.
RA of the Month
Chosen as Resident Assistant of the Month for the latest award period is Robert J. Lamb, of Lansing, N.Y., a welding and fabrication engineering technology major.
"This veteran RA (based in Lancaster Hall) assisted a number of new staff members in completing health and safety inspections for their floors," staff wrote. "He has been an integral part of helping the new RAs as they adjust to working in Rose Street Commons."
He was also directly responsible for four programs in September and October: A movie social, "S'mores on the Quad," yoga and a fire-safety program. Three of them were group offerings, but Lamb was the leader in each.
Rising Star of the Month
The September/October Rising Star is Tyler J. Durham, an information technology: information assurance and security concentration major from Newville.
"(Durham) developed a great relationship with his residents immediately," staff said of the York Hall RA. "He had an ice cream social that was attended by almost all the residents on his floor (and) ... he assisted in developing the very successful fire-safety program for residents of Rose Street Commons.
"He confronts issues on his floor as soon as they come up, and he keeps his housing coordinator updated on pertinent information," Residence Life officials added. "He does a great job of taking the initiative in finding solutions to issues as they arise."
'First Responders' Award
A literally life-saving situation has resulted in "First Responders" recognition for Ashley G. Maietta and Darren S. Kanagy, both from Campus View Apartments.
"These RAs responded very quickly and appropriately to a serious medical incident in their complex," it was explained. "They remained calm, contacted the appropriate authorities and remained on the scene until help arrived. They were able to provide vital medical information to the paramedics, ensuring proper treatment and safety of a student."
Maietta is a nursing student from Hughesville and Kanagy, of Huntingdon, majors in manufacturing engineering technology.
'Always Hallways' Award
Brandt D. Hey, of Chambersburg, a Dauphin Hall (Rose Street Commons) resident majoring in residential construction technology and management: building construction technology concentration, received "Always Hallways" honors.
"This Resident Assistant is an observant team member. He is consistent in reporting issues and never allows his coordinator to miss a detail pertaining to buildingwide concerns," staff said. "He is also a great advocate for students and often appropriately challenges issues if a problem arises. He follows up on maintenance issues, room conditions and decorations in the suites, and has provided helpful suggestions for improvement and problem-solving."
