Jeremy L. Thorne, a landscape/horticulture technology: landscape emphasis major from Sugarloaf, recently received the Silver Shovel award from the Maryland-based Denison Landscaping & Nursery Inc. The honor is presented to one student from Penn College and each of the other eight partner schools at which Denison regularly recruits: The Pennsylvania State University, Virginia Tech, University of Georgia, Mississippi State University, Hinds (Miss.) Community College, University of Maryland, West Virginia University and SUNY Cobleskill. The recipients are chosen by the faculty and staff at Student Career Days who believe that the students have lived up to Denison's values of commitment, quality and service. "Jeremy is the student that best exemplifies the qualities that the Silver Shovel award stands for," horticulture instructor Carl J. Bower Jr. said. "He was the driving force behind us going to Student Career Days and it is a pleasure to give him this award."
