Fifteen Penn College horticulture students and instructor Carl J. Bower Jr. recently took a field trip to the gardens of the Smithsonian Institution and the U.S. Botanical Garden in Washington, D.C. While there, the group met with Sarah A. Tietbohl, a 2005 floral design/interior plantscape alumna and a 2006 graduate in technology management. Tietbohl talked about her position at the Smithsonian gardens and her previous job as a gardener at Mount Vernon. She encouraged the students to think about public horticulture as a career and to always be on the lookout for job opportunities. Tietbohl tends the Enid A.
