A landscape/horticulture technology student at Pennsylvania College of Technology received a $2,500 scholarship at the 2011 Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association Leadership Summit held Feb. 10 in Lancaster.
Megan Schmid, of Danville a Student Ambassador at the college who is scheduled to graduate in May was awarded a PLNA Foundation Scholarship from the Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association. The foundation annually recognizes the achievements of students enrolled in related curriculum at Pennsylvania institutions; Penn College's program comprises emphases in landscape (Schmid's particular major) and plant production.
"The foundation is proud to support students like Megan, as she represents the future leaders of our industry," said Carl J. Bower Jr., a horticulture instructor in the college's School of Natural Resources Management. "It's also important for those students to realize that their hard work is recognized."
The PLNA Foundation, which Bower serves as a trustee, provides resources to encourage research, reward scholarship and promote the values and benefits of ornamental horticulture.
