Vol. 8, No. 20 (Through Sunday, Dec. 27)

Penn College Wildcat Tales Following a monthlong layoff, the Pennsylvania College of Technology men's basketball team returns to action Saturday in the PNC Bank Holiday Invitational at the University of Scranton's Long Center.

The Wildcats, who are 3-5 overall with all of their losses to NCAA Division II or III colleges, open against Keene (N.H.) State (5-5) at 5:30 p.m. Host Scranton (6-4) faces Hunter (N.Y.) College (5-4) at 7:30 p.m. The consolation game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, with the championship following at 4 p.m.

"They have more size than us, Penn College coach Gene Bruno said going into the tournament. "We've got to do the little things, like boxing out. I don't know if we'll play more man (defense) or trap them. What's more important is that we're able to run our stuff against them and execute good offense."

Keene's leading scorer is Derek D'Amours, a 6-foot, 5-inch sophomore, who is averaging 20 points per game. Leroy Joiner of Williamsport tops Penn College in scoring with 18.7 points per game.

"It'll be a good tournament for us before league play," Bruno added.

Penn College's basketball teams return to Penn State University Athletic Conference action on Jan. 14 at Penn State Hazleton.
