Wildcat TalesFollowing is a weekly recap of Pennsylvania College of Technology's fall sports teams and look ahead to important upcoming games. During the past week, Penn College teams won seven games and lost five.
FlashbackThe women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season when it fell 2-0 to crosstown rival NCAA Division III Lycoming College. During the match the Wildcats managed only three shots on goal, while allowing 22. In a midweek match at Reading Community College, freshman Kierstin Steer (South Williamsport) scored three goals in a 6-3 Penn College win. The squad closed out the week with a 4-0 loss at Alfred (N.Y.) University. In the most recent United States Collegiate Athletic Association national standings, Penn College is ranked first.
The men's soccer team stepped out of the Penn State University Athletic Conference against Davis College on Thursday and scored a 3-0 win. Morris Sayon (Upper Darby) and Jevin Martin (Northumberland) each had a goal and an assist. The Wildcats are ranked No. 6 in the most recent USCAA national standings.
Penn College's coed tennis team continued to roll with a 9-0 win over Penn State Hazleton. Double winners were Shane Burridge (Ephrata), Brad Fisher (Montoursville), Robert Kemrer (Milton), Rachel Emmons (Washington, N.J.) and Danielle Trout (Harrisburg). In an 8-1 win over Penn State Mont Alto that pushed the team's record to 5-0, Burridge, Kemrer, Dan Montville (Hughesville) and Trout were double winners. The Wildcats are ranked first in the PSUAC standings.
In women's volleyball, Penn College lost twice Saturday, falling to Lycoming College and Misericordia University.
The golf team closed out its regular season with a second-place finish among five teams at Penn State New Kensington. Craig Flint (Port Allegheny) led the squad with an 80, while Eric Schall (Jersey Shore) shot an 81. The team now is idle until Oct. 12-13 when it defends its title in the season-ending PSUAC championships on the Penn State Blue Course.
On the HorizonAfter a week off, the men's and women's cross-country teams return to action Saturday at the Albright Invitational.
The men's soccer team has key PSUAC home matches against conference unbeaten Penn State York (6 p.m. Thursday) and once-beaten Penn State Beaver (3 p.m. Saturday). Over the past four seasons, the men's squad has won 43 consecutive PSUAC matches. Its last conference loss came on Sept. 26, 2006, at the hands of Penn State Delaware, 4-3. It has won 56 of 57 PSUAC matches since the 2005 season.
