Certificate

This curriculum is intended to provide a basic understanding of masonry construction systems of buildings and the fundamental hands-on skills to work safely and efficiently in a variety of masonry disciplines, including concrete, brick and stone, and site preparation. Students will learn basic building system concepts and practice the fundamental hands-on skills to prepare for entry-level positions in masonry and concrete areas. Interrelationships of building systems and safety concerns will be emphasized.

Career Opportunities:  Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions for concrete and masonry contractors and builders, apprentice masons with advancement possibilities, block- and brick-layers, concrete and masonry sales, and inspectors. With additional experience and education, students may progress to management and supervisory positions in the masonry field.

Recommended High School Subjects:  High school algebra and geometry; communications; building trades courses are desirable but not required.

Remediation Strategies:  Students should remediate any mathematics or communications deficiencies during the first semester. Placement testing and developmental requirements will be according to existing College Policy.

Transfer Procedures:  This major is subject to the transfer standards established by the College (see http://www.pct.edu/catalog/TransferringCredits.htm ). Exceptions must be approved by the school dean.
