It’s been a busy “awards season” as Penn College closes out the 2024-25 academic year, and among the top traditions is the Student Leadership & Involvement Awards. Hosted by the Office of Student Engagement in the Thompson Professional Development Center, the recent gathering honored student leaders, their mentors and the student organizations who make a positive impact on campus and in the community.

Cross-curricular collaboration explores poverty

Can you survive a month in poverty? That was the key question at a recent Community Action Poverty Simulation explored by Penn College students in various majors in the School of Nursing & Health Sciences and School of Business, Arts & Sciences. Poverty simulations have been held at the college since Spring 2019, but the Spring 2025 event was the first to cast a wider net of cross-curricular collaboration.

Student-organized event gets kids moving

Pennsylvania College of Technology physical therapist assistant students recently provided an activity-filled morning to 70 elementary school children in the college’s Field House. Seeking a service-learning project, students invited special education classes from Jersey Shore Area, Loyalsock Township, South Williamsport Area and Williamsport Area school districts to a jungle-themed event, dubbed “Wildcat Kids in Motion."
