Program Educational Objectives
Program Educational Objectives describe the career and professional accomplishments that graduates, after several years of experience, are prepared to achieve.
The educational objectives of the Welding and Fabrication Engineering Technology program are:
- Technical Proficiency – Graduates will be well versed in both traditional welding technologies, as well as the newest advancements in high-energy density and specialized welding processes. Math and science will be cornerstones for experimenting, testing, data analysis and problem solving with commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
- Interpersonal Skills – Graduates will be effective in their communication to ensure that they are relaying a clear message, will respect the viewpoints of others, and will be effective listeners when working as a member of a team.
- Professionalism – Graduates will display a strong work ethic and an attention to detail. In addition, graduates will exhibit personal and professional growth through their commitment to lifelong learning, as evidenced by professional society certification(s) and/or graduate studies.
- Awareness of Societal Impact – Graduates will be aware that their workplace decisions will impact the global community. With an ethical approach to their decision-making, our graduates will be empathetic to others and contribute to the greater global good.
- Leadership Abilities – Graduates will understand management’s role in empowering and enabling workers. They will be well versed in project management techniques, intrinsic worker motivation, team-building, and be comfortable teaching and presenting welding, fabrication, and manufacturing related information.
- Passion for the Trade – Graduates will be actively involved in welding engineering technology and find an area of expertise related to: weldment design; material selection; welding procedure development and qualification; welding process selection and implementation; welding capital equipment development and system integration; weld quality monitoring and process control; destructive and non-destructive examination; welding automation and offline-programming; or weld consulting.
