As a graduate of Penn College, Loren knows the value of a hands-on education. He brings 25+ years of combined industry and teaching experience to the lab along with an impressively long list of certifications. When he's not guiding lessons in the lab, Loren is busy keeping his own lineup of vehicles in top condition.
Penn College is special to me because we are an intricate component to a student’s life-long success. When a student commits to a Penn College degree they are making a choice to better their future by creating opportunity.
As a Penn College alumni, the most rewarding part of my job is personally knowing how the choice to attend Penn College has a direct impact on creating future opportunity for the graduate. Seeing a graduate start their career and advance themselves year by year is very rewarding. The reward is not about me, it is knowing that the student made the most of their education to better themselves, their families, and their future.
Hands-on education is valuable largely due to the development of critical thinking skills. The collision repair industry is very procedural-based. For a student to be able to analyze and process data quickly enables them to be successful while applying real work skills.
My proudest moment as an instructor has to be seeing a graduate start a career in the collision repair industry, start a family, and establish a home. I cannot think of anything more satisfying than seeing a graduate succeed.
To answer this question, I had to reach out to an employer. When asked this question, this was the employer’s response – “Perfect training, perfect employees.”
I am an automotive enthusiast. I love teaching others what I’ve learned at Penn College and things I’ve learned throughout the years as an enthusiast. Being in my home shop, using tools and shop equipment, and working on a project is what I enjoy in my free time. I find satisfaction in learning a new skill or performing a new task, and I especially find satisfaction if it involves tools and equipment within my shop. I have an old car and truck that I enjoy driving and maintaining as well. When the weather is nice I enjoy a car show, drag race or any automotive event. What I especially enjoy, as much as I enjoy working in my shop, is driving antique and modified vehicles.
